TOP 10 MALAYALAM MOVIES OF THE YEAR 2013

“Top Malayalam Movies of the year”, Pheeew!!! 158 films !!!! Highest number of films ever released in Malayalam Industry. Every other industries of Indian Cinema are wondered how a small industry like Mollywood project this kind of figures in the board.Usually Bollywood will be the industry which produce highest number of films fro India, but this year they are behind the Telugu(134)with 123 films,and Tamil Films follow Malayalam films with 147.As a fan of Malayalam Films I am proud to Share that Malayalam industry comes back with Quality films compared to other Industries in India.When compared To average Quality of Cinemas  Malayalam movies are ahead of other south industries and even Bollywood{ apart films like Shahid,Ship of Thesis,Lunch Box etc. (these films are better than this year’s Malayalam Top movies,and in future we need to work on that)}.With less budget we make more sensible movies than many high budget films where hero's are always stay on the sky for silly fights.In the year 2014 I expecting more from Malayalam films.  

      

I was working on this project from January to December,but  now I am bit relaxed(special Salute to Jury members who watching movies for annual awards within 1-2 weeks itself,now I understood what they are going through,hooo!!) . Even though I go through the most of the films of the year (mostly 80 to 100)I missed most important ones like Papilio Buddha,101 chodyangal (if considered film festival screenings- kaliyachan , Kanyaka Talkies),I am pretty sure that these films Should be in the top 5 itself.For the time being I am publishing my top movies without them  I am apologizing for it.         

10. Philips and The Monkey Pen-7.00/10

Philips & The Monkey Pen starts with a caption “Lets Put your leg in to child shoes” ,this is what Monkey Pen Shares with  us.These days less films are focused on pure children movie,but made a enough impact on mainstream cinemas without any star,Celebrity tag.Monkey Pen even become success in Box office because movie is well crafted with Nostalgic,Fantasy and Moral Merits.Director Rojin Thoma& shani mohammed really performed magic on screens.  

9. 5 Sundarikal- 7.00/10

5 Sundarikal, a movie which contain 5 romantic short stories was a wonderful experience for me.In the 5 ,Kullande Bharya directed by Amal Neerad and Sethulakshmi directed by Shyju Khalid was excellent piece of work.Kullande Bharya showcased a touching romantic story through a perspective of people crooked eyes, was an exceptional experience.While Sethulakshmi portrait an innocent story of two children in a Amazing Direction & cinematography. Aami  was also a good movie but other two Isha & Gauri were just average.      

8.  Memories –7.00/10

'Memories' is a WELL TAKEN CINEMATIC THRILLER IN REALISTIC APPROACH,and it is one of the BEST INVESTIGATIVE THRILLER i have ever seen in Malayalam cinema.There is a running sequence between Sam and the Antagonist in the movie was a world class scene having equal proportion of both Realistic and Cinematic technique,this is enough to say about what Memories really is !!.  7.  Annayum Rasoolum-7.10/10

As the name itself the film is a Story about Anna & Resool.The film is basically a love story which is happening in Kochi.What Annayum Rasoolum stands apart from other usual Intercast love story is it’s treatment and visualization.Director Rajeev Ravi managed to project real life story into the screens which going through the life's of Anna & Rasool. Fahadh was brilliantly acted as a real taxi driver in Kochi which we see in day to day life.Read my review of Annayum Rasoolum      

6.  Celluloid-7.10/10 

Celluloid is a real tribute to J.C Daniel ,The Father of Malayalam Cinema and also the story of his film’s Vigathakumaran heroine P.K Rosie . Director Kamal along with Prithviraj  performance  made a beautiful, touching, influencing,passionate movie. Celluloid is a must watch film For Every Malayalam Cinema audience to understood the back script history of Malayalam Cinema.    

5.  Drishyam-7.15/10

Drishyam was a real Christmas present for me by Director Jithu Joseph and Lalettan. Drishyam is story about how Georgekutty and his family faces a situation and how they overcome it. Drishyam is not a usual Family movie because it is more over a well taken Family Thriller.First half is filled with family happiness and comedies later on the second half the film is geared on top experience a fantastic thrilling till the end. 

4.  Akam-7.40/10

Akam  is such a movie which will haunt you even after you finish watching the film. the movie want to share you many things like, about relations, spaces, reality, fantasy, myths, life, death and many more.    Every scenes have got something for you, something that disturbing you, which leads to mysteries, mysteries leads to searching, searching ends in silence, each silence in the scenes helps to reach you a place where you doesn’t want to exist. 'AKAM’ is written & Directed by Shalini Usha Nair, she has taken this film in to an International standard.’AKAM’ needs some recognition, so watch it and share your views.Read my detailed review on AKAM

3.  Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi-7.45/10

Life is something that is said to be a Journey, A Journey that travel to a destination that is unknown , A journey that encounters with our feelings, A journey for searching of answers for the questions that will quench our inner soul's thirst Yes a Beautiful Journey………..These are the words that comes from my mind after seeing this film,but overall feeling that i feeled after watching this is beyond these words. One of the BEST REALISTIC ROAD TRIP MOVIE (more suited is RIDING MOVIE) i have ever seen in any language.Movie really got some Class, it is telling story through visuals rather than literature (except in flashbacks) point of view telling ,dialogues are only in the required areas and I think, this is what really needed in visual based 'Art' called CINEMA. Top class direction from Sameer Thahir, who completely visioned this movie in his mind and projected beautifully.Read my review of NPCB.

2.  Ollipporu- 7.50/10

I think,for everyone Ollipporu will be the most surprised entry of my Top Movies of the year.Why Ollipporu is a good question but to answer it in a short paragraph is difficult for me.But in a sentence Ollipporu is the best Intellectual Movie of the year which discuss the Guerilla war of ‘Ajayan’ between Life and Death. I am going to write a detailed review about this movie sonly, so keep updated.         

1.  Amen- 8.00/10

 

Amen is charming, funny, romantic, bright ,divine and full of life .‘AMEN’ is a movie which puts 100% justice for it’s movie caption ‘’A Divine comedy”, it’s interesting because in these time all films have a caption Even though they didn’t get any idea about “what it meant by?’’

I will give you 4 reasons to watch “AMEN”

1. The whole film presentation, I am sure you will experience something new from this film. It rewritten all conventions and introduce a new pattern of storytelling to Malayalam industry. Well written screenplay and direction. And I think that is what needed in a good movie, isn’t it? 
2. Performance of Actors, Art works, Graphics, Costumes, Cinematography are top notch and you will love songs visuals, (especially single shot ‘SHAP SONG’, Solomanum Shoshannayum song, Indrajith ‘s vattolli song) .
3. In “AMEN” you will see things that you never expected. Because there are only few films in the world that dealt with ’Divine comedy’. 
4. HMMM…… WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR? DIDN’T I Give YOU 4 REASONS,ISN’T THAT ENOUGH TO SEE A GOOD MOVIE??
